This award recognizes outstanding African American males both adult and young men. This award is named after the late Archbishop James P. Lyke, a native Chicagoan from Wentworth Gardens housing project, who became the youngest African American Catholic Bishop in the country. His dedication to African American education and community issues made him a national leader.
The criteria for this award are leadership, Christian values, community service and dedication to the African American community.
Over the past 26 years, 807 African American men from our communities have been recognized and $345,000 in scholarships has been awarded to African American young men attending college.
